Millennium Bridge

The Millennium Bridge is a modern pedestrian suspension bridge spanning the River Thames in London, connecting the Bankside district near Tate Modern to the City of London near St Paul’s Cathedral. Designed by architect Sir Norman Foster, engineer Chris Wise, and sculptor Sir Anthony Caro, the bridge was completed in 2000 as part of the city’s millennium celebrations.

The Millennium Bridge features an innovative, minimalist design, with a sleek steel structure and a slender profile that allows for unobstructed views of the river and surrounding landmarks. The bridge’s unique lateral suspension system, which uses cables and supports to create a smooth and level walking surface, was developed in response to the initial issues of excessive sway experienced shortly after its opening. Following modifications to address the problem, the bridge reopened in 2002 and has since become a popular and functional addition to London’s urban landscape.
