Amadores Beach

Amadores Beach is one of the most popular and visually striking beaches in Gran Canaria. Located on the island’s sunny southwest coast between Puerto Rico and Puerto de Mogán, the beach is known for its calm turquoise water, imported white sand and sheltered bay protected by long curved breakwaters. Unlike many of Gran Canaria’s darker volcanic beaches, Amadores was deliberately designed to create a more Caribbean-style setting and has become one of the island’s best-known resort beaches.

The beach attracts a wide mix of visitors including families, couples and holidaymakers looking for calm swimming conditions and reliable sunshine throughout the year. The sheltered bay usually experiences very small waves, making it particularly suitable for children and less confident swimmers. The water is often exceptionally clear, especially during calm weather, and swimming or floating in the bay is one of the area’s main attractions.

Behind the beach is a long promenade lined with cafés, restaurants, bars and small shops. The atmosphere is generally quieter and more relaxed than nearby Puerto Rico, particularly during the daytime when many visitors spend hours sunbathing beside the sea. In the evening the promenade becomes popular for sunset walks and outdoor dining overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

One of the best ways to experience the area is by walking the coastal path connecting Amadores Beach with Puerto Rico. The route follows the rocky coastline and provides impressive views across the ocean, marina and surrounding cliffs. Sunset is particularly dramatic from this section of coast, with the low evening light reflecting across the water and nearby volcanic hillsides.

Although Amadores Beach is highly developed and purpose-built for tourism, it remains one of the most attractive beaches on Gran Canaria due to its clean appearance, calm conditions and scenic setting. For many visitors it represents the classic image of a relaxing beach holiday in the Canary Islands, combining warm weather, safe swimming and easy access to restaurants and resort facilities throughout the year.
