Playa Anfi del Mar is one of the most visually distinctive beaches in Gran Canaria and is often compared to a Caribbean resort rather than a typical Atlantic beach. Located on the southwest coast between Puerto Rico and Arguineguín, the beach is famous for its imported white sand, turquoise water and rows of palm trees surrounding a sheltered bay.
Unlike many of Gran Canaria’s darker volcanic beaches, Playa Anfi del Mar was deliberately designed to create a tropical-style holiday atmosphere. Thousands of tonnes of white sand were imported during the development of the resort, transforming the small natural cove into one of the island’s most attractive beach areas. The calm water and sheltered conditions make it especially popular with families, swimmers and paddleboarders.
The beach is backed by a modern promenade lined with cafés, restaurants and shops overlooking the marina and Atlantic Ocean. Visitors can relax beside the sea during the day before staying for sunset drinks or evening meals overlooking the bay. The atmosphere is generally quieter and more relaxed than some of the larger nearby resorts such as Playa del Inglés.
One of the most noticeable features of Anfi del Mar is the colour of the water. During calm sunny weather the bay often takes on striking turquoise shades that contrast sharply with the surrounding volcanic coastline. Small boats, yachts and ferries regularly pass the marina, while coastal boat excursions also operate from nearby harbours.
Watersports including jet skiing, paddleboarding and parasailing are available during busier periods, although many visitors simply come to relax beside the unusually calm sea. The beach also connects easily to nearby resorts including Puerto Rico via coastal roads and walkways.
Although highly developed for tourism, Playa Anfi del Mar remains one of Gran Canaria’s most attractive resort beaches. The combination of white sand, palm trees and sheltered swimming conditions continues to make it one of the island’s most photographed coastal locations.
