Bellver Castle

Bellver Castle, located on a hill overlooking Palma de Mallorca, is a unique fortress renowned for its circular layout and Gothic architecture. Built in the 14th century by King James II of Mallorca, it is one of the few circular castles in Europe and stands as a testament to medieval military architecture.

The castle served various purposes throughout its history, including as a royal residence, military stronghold, and even as a prison during different periods. Its interior features an impressive central courtyard surrounded by two levels of galleries, with the upper floor housing the Museum of City History (Museu d’Història de la Ciutat).

From its elevated position, Bellver Castle offers panoramic views of Palma, the surrounding mountains, and the Mediterranean Sea. Visitors can explore the castle grounds, walk along its battlements, and admire historical artifacts and exhibits that highlight its rich history and strategic importance.

Today, Bellver Castle is a popular tourist attraction and cultural venue, hosting concerts, exhibitions, and cultural events throughout the year. Its architectural significance, historical value, and scenic location make it a must-visit destination for anyone interested in Mallorca’s medieval past and panoramic views of the island’s capital city.
