Anse Source d’Argent

Anse Source d’Argent is one of the most famous beaches in the world and the most iconic destination in the Seychelles. Located on the southwestern coast of La Digue, the beach is celebrated for its dazzling white sand, crystal-clear turquoise lagoon and enormous granite boulders sculpted by millions of years of weathering. Its extraordinary scenery has featured in countless travel magazines, advertisements and films, making it one of the most photographed beaches on Earth.

Unlike many tropical beaches, Anse Source d’Argent is protected by an offshore coral reef, creating calm, shallow water that is ideal for swimming, paddling and snorkelling. The combination of clear water, swaying palm trees and dramatic granite formations creates a landscape unlike almost anywhere else in the world. At low tide, broad stretches of sand are revealed, allowing visitors to wander between the rock formations and discover secluded coves, while high tide transforms the beach into a series of picturesque lagoons.

The beach is located within L’Union Estate, a historic coconut plantation and heritage site that also features giant Aldabra tortoises, traditional plantation buildings and a restored copra mill. Visitors purchase an entrance ticket to the estate, which provides access to both the beach and its historic attractions. Many people choose to combine a visit to Anse Source d’Argent with time exploring the estate before or after relaxing by the sea.

Photography is one of the main reasons people visit Anse Source d’Argent. The beach is particularly beautiful during the early morning and late afternoon, when the softer light enhances the colours of the granite boulders and turquoise water. Sunrise and sunset create especially atmospheric conditions, although the beach remains spectacular throughout the day.

Although Anse Source d’Argent is one of the Seychelles’ most visited attractions, its generous size means it’s usually possible to find quieter areas by walking a little further along the shoreline. Snorkelling around the coral reef reveals colourful tropical fish and other marine life, while the calm lagoon makes it an excellent choice for families with children.

Anse Source d’Argent perfectly captures the natural beauty that has made the Seychelles famous. Whether you’re swimming in its warm, crystal-clear waters, exploring the remarkable granite boulders or simply admiring one of the world’s most spectacular coastal landscapes, a visit to this extraordinary beach is an unforgettable highlight of any trip to La Digue.
