Koh Larn, commonly known as Coral Island, is a small island located in the Gulf of Thailand approximately 7 kilometres west of Pattaya. It is one of the most popular day-trip destinations from the city, known for its clearer water, sandy beaches and more relaxed atmosphere compared with the busy mainland resort. The island covers about four square kilometres and is characterised by low forested hills surrounded by several sheltered bays.

Koh Larn is best known for its beaches, which are generally cleaner and quieter than Pattaya Beach. The most visited beach is Tawaen Beach, located on the northern side of the island. This beach has a wide stretch of sand and a large number of restaurants, cafés and water sports operators. Because ferries arrive directly at the pier here, it tends to be the busiest area on the island.
Several other beaches offer a more peaceful setting. Samae Beach, on the western coast, is known for its clear water and sunset views across the Gulf of Thailand. Tien Beach, located nearby, has a smaller and quieter shoreline surrounded by rocky hills. Other beaches such as Nual Beach and Ta Yai Beach are also popular with visitors looking for calmer surroundings.
Water activities are a major attraction on Koh Larn. Snorkelling, jet skiing, parasailing and banana boat rides are widely available, and the clearer water makes swimming more enjoyable than in Pattaya Bay. In addition to beach activities, visitors can rent scooters or small taxis to explore the island’s interior roads and viewpoints.
Koh Larn can be reached by public ferry from Bali Hai Pier at the southern end of Pattaya Beach. Ferries usually take about 40–45 minutes and operate several times throughout the day. Faster speedboats are also available and can reach the island in around 15–20 minutes, although they are more expensive.
Facilities on the island include restaurants, small hotels and beachside cafés. Most visitors come for the day, but overnight accommodation is available for those wanting a quieter experience after the day-trippers leave.
Visitors are advised to bring sun protection, drinking water and cash, as some smaller businesses may not accept cards. Arriving earlier in the morning generally provides a more relaxed experience before the main ferry crowds arrive.
