Jomtien Beach is a long sandy beach located just south of central Pattaya on the eastern coast of the Gulf of Thailand. Stretching for approximately six kilometres, it forms a quieter alternative to Pattaya Beach and is generally preferred by visitors seeking a more relaxed atmosphere. The beach runs parallel to Jomtien Beach Road, where hotels, restaurants and cafés line the waterfront.
The beach itself is wide and gently sloping, with a mixture of sand and small shells. While the water conditions are similar to those found in Pattaya Bay, the area is noticeably less crowded, particularly during weekdays. Rows of palm trees and shaded seating areas along the promenade provide a comfortable environment for walking or resting near the sea.
Jomtien Beach is known for its wide range of recreational activities. Water sports such as windsurfing, parasailing, jet skiing and paddleboarding are commonly available along sections of the beach. Windsurfing is particularly popular because the open coastline often provides favourable wind conditions. Equipment rentals and instruction are available from several operators along the waterfront.
The beach is also a well-known destination for kite surfing, particularly during the windier months between November and February. During these periods it is common to see colourful kites across the bay as both beginners and experienced riders make use of the steady coastal winds.
Along the promenade there are numerous food stalls and small restaurants serving Thai seafood dishes, grilled meats, fresh fruit and cold drinks. Beach chairs and umbrellas can be rented for the day, allowing visitors to relax along the shoreline while enjoying views across the Gulf of Thailand.
Jomtien Beach is located about 3 kilometres south of Pattaya’s main beach area and can be reached easily by songthaew, the shared pickup taxis that operate along the city’s coastal roads. These vehicles run frequently and provide a convenient and inexpensive way to travel between Pattaya and Jomtien.
Visitors are advised to bring sun protection, particularly during the middle of the day when temperatures are high. Early morning and late afternoon are often the most comfortable times to visit, when the light is softer and the beach is generally quieter.
